The future
I sit by the fire and think
of all that I have seen,
of meadow-flowers and butterflies
in summers that have been;
Of yellow leaves and gossamer,
in autumns that were,
with morning mist and silver sun,
and wind upon my hair.
I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall ever see.
For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring
there is a different green.
I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago,
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.
But all the while I sit and think
of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door.
~Bilbo Baggins, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
And..?
Ain’t I a good little student? I didn’t write at all yesterday…just studied until what few brains I had perished from being overtaxed…speaking of taxes, that’s what I studied yesterday, amongst other things…I think I am suffering because I haven’t had coffee in 48+ hours…I think my head is going to explode…
Classical Education
Hmmmm…
I have determined to read Dante’s Inferno…and, sometime in the near future, I shall go to a library and borrow a mess of Shakespeare works. I have never really understood why people like Shakespeare…it is time to find out.
Why do people like Shakespeare?
Early
It will be a good day. For the first time in nearly three weeks I have risen before the sun and done many things I would not even begin to do for another half hour.
Now, watch as I waste my day writing a short story rather than studying…I shall call this, The Guardian or something along those lines…poor Nathan…
I need some coffee.
Heartless
It bugs me, quite a bit, that people who are not interested in writing debase the thoughts of those who are interested in it. I am so glad that I am in love with a girl who wants to write! The idea of marrying someone who lacks understanding of at least the emotions of this area is frightening…
I guess some of this is born out of the fact that some people who are close to me have never taken an interest in my works. It’s been always shrugged off in some form, and that has been a rather painful thing to deal with. But it makes me wonder – have I ever done this to someone in some other area?
Fellow inspiration
Some of the better pieces of inspiration I have received have come from reading the works of others who are in pursuit of the same goal as myself. Of course, most have a great deal of retinence in this area…naturally. After all, there are few things a writer hates more than their own writings. Myself included. What I share is often what I want critiqued and abused so as to improve it, even when it’s embarrassing – I have never shared anything out of the thought that it was good, since I have never written any such things.
Sadly, the inherent reluctance of writers to share their creations results (this is my personal belief) in the loss of many possible bits of inspiration to writing peers.
So please, fellow writers…be more willing to share!!
All that said…it doesn’t mean I will share…
I write, therefore I create.
Figuratively speaking, at least. Welcome. These are the mad ravings of a writer, immersed in the darkness of fictional writing, caught in the whirlwind of terrible impulses to create, swept up in the need to force change, and doomed to occasionally make a fool of himself.
If you are wondering as to my preferences, it’s usually fantasy, at several levels. If I publish anything here I’d rather you not distribute, I’ll throw the little copyright symbol out there, but I think it more likely you’ll have to ask to see any stuff; I will occasionally update that I have completed something for those intereste (i.e., The Seer is in its final stages of editing, and The Overseer is finished in a rough draft form!). But anyway, details.
I am caught wondering why I am doing this. Probably out of boredom, mayhaps out of the desire to share my work in some fashion – I get the urge sometimes. But, feel free to comment and leave questions. I can’t make a bunch of promises as to the quality of this site…but, well, we’ll see.
